Washington County Jail Overview
Washington County Detention Center is operated by the Washington County Sheriff's Office. The county uses the term detainee often, but the public search intent is the same: people want to know whether someone is in custody at the Fayetteville jail. The sheriff has local jail custody under Arkansas law, and the public-facing detention system is split across the county detention hub and sheriff-hosted data pages.
The Washington County jail holds new arrestees, pretrial detainees, misdemeanor and felony defendants, county-sentenced detainees, people held on warrants, people back for court, Arkansas DOC commitments awaiting movement, parole-violation cases, and some federal or immigration detainees. That mix matters. A missing result on the county roster is not proof that no custody exists, because a person may be released, transferred, listed by a different system, or held under a state, federal, or immigration process.
Washington County Detention Population
The official detention FAQ describes Washington County Detention Center as a 700+ bed facility. The live roster inspected on May 28, 2026 at 8:30 PM showed 698 unique booking links. That figure is a roster-derived count from the public page, not an official average daily population label. It is still useful because it shows the scale of the jail and why staff route communication through mail, visitation, and phone systems rather than hand-delivering messages.
The Washington County detainee charge list adds context but should not be added up as a headcount. On the same May 28, 2026 inspection, the charge report contained 1,751 charge-category instances. One detainee can have several charges or status categories. The list did include ADC COMMITTED, ADC PAROLE VIOLATED, BACK FOR COURT, and bench-warrant categories, which helps explain why the jail population includes more than simple pretrial local arrests.
| Measure | Figure | How to Read It |
|---|---|---|
| Current roster | 698 unique links | Public roster capture on May 28, 2026 at 8:30 PM. |
| Three-day intake | 96 unique links | Recent booking feed, including some released people. |
| Charge report | 1,751 charge instances | Charge-category count, not a detainee total. |
| Facility size | 700+ beds | County FAQ description of the jail. |
Lookup Washington County Jail Inmates
The county's main lookup tool is the Detainee Alpha Roster, labeled by the county detention hub as the detailed detainee roster. It is not a blank search box. It loads as a sortable alpha table with name, age, race, sex, prior bookings, intake date, bond, and a View button. The roster is best for people currently held at Washington County Detention Center.
- Open the detailed roster and check the last-updated line before relying on the result.
- Sort or scan the Name Last, First column. Use age, sex, race code, intake date, and bond to separate similar names.
- Use the View button when the public page renders the booking detail. If detail does not load, call Detention or Records.
- Check the three-day intake report for a recent arrest that may have booked and released quickly.
- Use the charge list when only a charge type or custody category is known.
Released detainee records and older booking questions usually move to the Records Department or FOI process. Records can be reached at (479) 444-5785 during business hours, and the sheriff FOI page lists Records@WashCoSOAR.gov as an alternative contact. If the arrest may be tied to an active warrant, check the Washington County warrant search and verify status with the Warrants line before taking action. A broader explanation of the roster fields appears in the Washington County jail inmate records page.
Washington County Jail Contact
The sheriff's office, detention center, records, and warrants lines all route to the same Clydesdale Drive complex, but they serve different purposes. Use Detention for current jail questions, Records for released detainee records or FOI routing, and Warrants for warrant status. The county says the Detention Center and Enforcement Division operate every day, while administrative offices keep weekday business hours.

Washington County Jail Visitation
Washington County Detention Center uses JailATM for visit reservations. The county describes two video-visit methods: a free kiosk visit from the jail lobby and a paid remote video visit from a computer with camera, microphone, and internet. County pages do not give one clean weekly schedule in the research capture, so the working rule is to reserve through JailATM and verify the current available slots before travel.
There is one timing conflict in the official material. One county page says visits must be scheduled at least two days in advance and no more than nine days ahead. The FAQ says visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. Use JailATM as the current scheduling source. The FAQ also says no more than two adults and two children may visit a detainee during one visitation.
| Visit Item | Washington County Rule | Where to Confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Lobby video | Free kiosk visit in the Detention Center lobby. | JailATM reservation screen. |
| Remote video | Computer-based visit with fees applied by the vendor. | JailATM account. |
| Scheduling window | County sources reference both 24 hours and two days ahead. | Verify the available JailATM window. |
| Visitor count | Maximum two adults and two children during one visitation. | County detention FAQ. |
Washington County Jail Mail
Routine detainee mail for Washington County Detention Center is not sent to the Fayetteville jail street address. The detention FAQ routes mail through the JailATM.com processing address in Conway, Arkansas, and requires a complete return address with the sender's first and last name. Packages and books are not accepted by mail for a specific detainee, and envelopes, paper, and stamps are not accepted because detainees may buy those items through commissary.

Washington County Transfer Caveats
Washington County jail records overlap with other custody systems. If a roster row or charge category shows ADC COMMITTED or ADC PAROLE VIOLATED, the person may still be housed at the county jail while the state-custody process continues. Once received and classified by Arkansas Department of Corrections, the ADC inmate locator becomes the correct lookup tool. The county FAQ says staff do not release transport timing to prison or by immigration for officer safety.
Federal and immigration cases need their own checks. Official research found a U.S. Marshals agreement for the Washington County Detention Facility and an ICE inspection report for the Fayetteville facility. Those records show that some federal or immigration detainee pathways exist, but they do not mean every detainee is federal or ICE custody. Use the BOP locator for federal prison after sentence, the ICE locator for immigration detention, and the local immigration bond contact for immigration bond questions.
Note: Confirm custody before travel because county jail, ADC, federal, and ICE systems can update at different speeds.
Washington County Intake Reports
The Washington County three-day intake report is the best public tool for a same-day or recent arrest question. It shows recent booking entries with name, age, race, sex, prior bookings, intake date and time, release date when displayed, and a View button. That makes it different from the current roster, which shows people still in custody and can omit someone who booked and released quickly.
The charge list can also answer a different kind of search. If a user only knows the charge or status category, the charge report lists descriptions and detainee counts, then provides a View link into matching roster entries. This is useful for categories such as bench warrant, ADC committed, or ADC parole violated, but it must be read as a charge index rather than a clean population count.
About Washington County Detention
The ICE ODO inspection report identifies Washington County Detention Center as opened in 1997 and owned and operated by the Washington County Sheriff's Office. The official county facility directory places the sheriff and detention center on Clydesdale Drive in south Fayetteville near the Fulbright Expressway and Tyson's Mexican Original plant. This is separate from the courthouse address on North College Avenue, so court business and jail visits should not be treated as the same destination.
Facility conditions and services visible in the captured county material center on PREA, communication, mail, commissary, property release, medication or prescription glasses with medical pre-approval, and visitation. The public research did not capture a county detainee handbook with detailed program, grievance, GED, religious service, or mental-health schedules. Program and visit access can change with classification, medical status, staffing, discipline, and lockdown.
Note: Call the Detention Center or check JailATM before travel because visits, releases, and housing status can change quickly.
